Description: Nice quality, private purchase cap by Pekuro w/ feld-grau ribbed-wool construction featuring a green wool centerband and bright red wool waffenfarbe piping to both the top and bottom edges of the center cap band and around the peak of the crown.  The front center of the cap has a silver washed, second pattern, (circa 1935-1945), die stamped, aluminum national eagle and the front center of the centerband also has a custom bullion wire hand-embroidered wreath & cockade. The cap has a twisted, silver/aluminum chin cord secured to the cap by two, small, silver washed, pebbled metal buttons. The caps black lacquered, vulcan fiber visor has a typical subtly raised lip around its forward edge. Tight, full silken lining retaining its unbroken celluloid moisture shield with full makers logo; undamaged beige leather sweatband with black velvet hinging around its circumference shows little to no actual wear, although there are a couple of reinforcement repairs to it. A super nice cap appearing as near mint overall.

Background: Visor caps were a standard item for all personnel during the Third Reich period and regulations dictated the form of dress they were to be worn with based on the individual’s rank. Officer and senior NCO ranks were responsible for purchasing their own caps and could choose to purchase them from the army clothing depots or to privately purchase visor caps of higher quality. Originally the insignia worn on the visor cap consisted of the Weimar Reichsheer patterns which included a blackened leather chinstrap for all ranks. In February 1927 new chin cords for Officer ranks were introduced with silver cords for the ranks of Lieutenant to Oberst and senior NCO Officer aspirants and gilt cords for the ranks of Generalmajor to Generalfeldmarschall. (Both the first pattern Reichsheer era visor cap eagle and wreath were replaced with the second pattern in March 1935).
