BUY / RESERVE THIS ITEMDescription: Circa 1943-45, and unused full length Liebstandarte-SS “Adolf Hitler” Cufftitle; black woven rayon construction, with machine-woven (Bevo) “Adolf Hitler” in silvery-grey Sütterlin script thread, the cufftitle is edged, both top and bottom with tightly interwoven silvery-grey matching perpendicular rayon threads to create a border look. The reverse features the typical “salt & pepper” pattern; measures approximately 49cm in length; a textbook example of this cufftitle, in overall fine condition. A very desirable cufftitle worn by the members of the 1st SS-Panzer Division “Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler”.
Background: As the war progressed a less intricate manufacturing method was developed for machine embroidered insignia like cufftitles. The method of machine weaving the lettering into the cufftitles was more cost efficient and faster to produce. These cufftitles are easily recognizable because of the white “salt & pepper” pattern on their reverse. These woven cufftitles were produced by various weaving manufactures yet the best known is BeVo indicating the company: Bandfabrik Ewald Vorsteher of Wuppertal. The first cufftitles were marked BeVo Wuppertal at the ends and folded and sewn at the ends to prevent fraying. Towards the end of the war this marking and later the folded ends were omitted. The lettering in the BeVo Cufftitles varies between off-white, light grey and grey. The lettering is quite standardized with only the slightest of variations as are the borders, which also show slight variations in both color and thickness.
