BUY / RESERVE THIS ITEMDescription: Mützenadler-Wasserschutzpolizei; Second pattern, police visor cap eagle as introduced June 1936 to replace the earlier, (Circa April 1934 June 1936), first pattern cap eagle. The single piece, gold anodized, alloy construction, right facing eagle features outstretched wings and is clutching a wreathed, canted swastika in its talons. The eagle is superimposed on an embossed, vertically oval, oak leaf wreath with the eagle’s wings extending beyond the outer edges of the wreath with a roughly, 55mm wingspan. The eagle and the wreath both have nice high relief detailing. The hollow backed reverse is a mirror image of the obverse and has both of the original, inset-pressed attachment prongs intact. Besides Water police this was also worn by Police Generals.
Reference: One of the new uniform regulations June 1936 was the introduction of a slightly modified second pattern police eagle and swastika to replace the first pattern. The police pattern national eagle was worn on all types of headgear including the visor caps, overseas cap and the M43 field cap. The insignia utilized on the visor caps was of metal construction while the insignia on the soft caps was generally machine embroidered or woven. The Police were divided into eight assorted branches of service that included the Wasserschutzpolizei, (Water Protection Police), who were tasked with protecting all inland waterways, ports and harbor installations within Germany. The Wasserschutzpolizei differed from the other police branches of service in that they wore navy blue uniforms as opposed to the police green worn by the other branches of the police and utilized gilt/golden yellow insignia including these visor cap eagles.
