Description: This dirk is beauty, having a lot of original gilt & all of the extras that collectors appreciate. The brass mounts throughout are textbook WKC. The pommel has excellent detail to the eagle head, breast feathering, and also to the vaulted wreath with the swastika. The cross guard features the center-placed fouled anchor on both sides. The quillon arms are decorated with acanthus leaves that have button ends with nipples. The grip is a stunning orange example and a real looker!. It is in perfect condition and is wrapped with twisted brass wire. The hilt features its original silver bullion portepee in-situ and tied in the correct Naval double hitch knot. The knot has toned to a deep gold color and beautifully accents the gilt hammered scabbard. The fine double etched blade remains in mint condition. The blade presents 100% of the original frosting which highlights the eye effect on the fouled anchor pattern on both sides of the blade. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the knight head logo, and beneath is the firm’s name, “WKC”. The original red felt blade washer remains in-situ and is fully intact.
The scabbard is straight as an arrow and is the extra-cost hammered variety. The hammering process was excellently rendered to include the lower chape button.Much gilt finish remains throughout! The scabbard is equipped with fine carrying bands having overlapping oak leaves and acorns. The carrying bands show little wear. The eyelets are the extra cost type having engraved oak leaves on their surfaces. The throat is retained by two dome head brass side screws. An outstanding one-looker Kriegsmarine Officers Dagger that has it all!.
