Description: This SMF dagger is about as close to mint as they come. The pommel and cross guard are aluminum and retain all of their gray burnishing. The pommel features outstanding oak leafing that surrounds the two swastikas that retain most of their gilt. The cross guard features the eagle flying to the viewer’s left being still in a new-like condition with perfect feathering. The upper cross guard arms have the engraved style oak leaves and acorns. The reverse panel has excellent pebbling, and with this maker, this area was never darkened but retains its pebbled gray burnishing that matches the scabbard perfectly. The ferrule nicely matches the mounts and is covered by the silvered officers knot. The grip is a very attractive medium-dark orange color and remains without flaws. The grip is tightly wrapped with aluminum springy wire. The bright nickel-plated blade is a real beauty and totally mint. The reverse ricasso is etched with the seated king trademark over the firm’s initials, “SMF”, and “Solingen”. The leather washer remains in-situ. The scabbard is pristine, being nickel-plated with a touch of gray burnishing within the panels to match the other fittings perfectly. The carrying bands are burnished aluminum having fine detail to the overlapping oak leaves and really set off the overall look. The throat is retained by two headless side screws that remain unmolested. Comes with its (apparent from wear) original silver Portepée. Nearly impossible to upgrade this beauty!
