Description: (Intantrie-Sturmabzeichen 1939) Seldom encountered “Pin stamped L/18″. Early tombak construction, matching soldered pin & catch set up. Maker marked on the narrow pin with the distribution stamp of B.H. Mayer “L/18” but made by Petz & Lorenz! Obverse appears completely Bronze with reverse having some silver traces; Slightly convex; A rare IAB in Excellent condition.
Background: The Infantry Assault Badge in silver was introduced in December 1939 by Generaloberst Walther von Brauchitsch, for award to Officers and EM/NCOs of non-motorized Infantry and Mountain Infantry units. Criteria for bestowal of the badge varied, with the main qualification being participation in three separate Infantry assaults. In June 1940 a bronze version of the Infantry Assault Badge was introduced for award to Officers and EM/NCOs of Motorized Infantry units.
