BUY / RESERVE THIS ITEMDescription: This Special Order 990 silver die struck badge takes the form of a vertically oval oak leaf wreath encircling a profiled horse and rider with an “R” (for “Reiter”), to its 6 o’clock position; Hollow, semi-stamped reverse with a hinged box-pin assembly and corresponding catch hook. Embossed: “Gesetzlich Geschützt” (By-law Protected) to the reverse of one side of the wreath, and the manufacturer’s name and location, “L. Chr. Lauer Nürnberg-Berlin” to the other. Rarely encountered, special-order sterling silver award of this badge that was worn by both Military & Political personnel.
Background: Instituted in 1930 by the German National Federation for the Breeding and Testing of Thoroughbreds, and designed by W. Heitinger, the German Horseman’s Badge was awarded in bronze, silver and gold, with the bronze awarded for successes in horse racing. It would later become a national award and was worn on the left breast of the uniform.
