Rare Original China Service IMPERIAL ORDER OF THE DRAGON MEDAL, Type II; SERIAL NUMBERED on reverse to its recipient #831; a 33.5mm diameter single sided medal having “Not to Conquer but to Save” & “CRE 1900” (China Relief Expedition 1900) on its obverse; Suspended from a highly detailed Dragon Pinback ribbon mounted bar. Medal retains its ORIGINAL 4-color silk Ribbon, both remaining in excellent+ condition
BACKGROUND: The purpose was to record the history and conserve the memory of the military campaign in China in the year 1900; provision being made for admitting to honorary membership the officers of foreign armies on service in China between June 15 and October 1, 1900.
