Etched Army Officers Dagger by ‘Voos’

Etched Army Officers Dagger by ‘Voos’

Price: Sold

This textbook Voos etched Army Dagger is nearly identical to the one depicted in Wittman’s Book on Army Daggers; pages 132 through 136.
The hilt mounts are the silver generic “A” variety. The pommel is a real beauty, with nearly all of the original silvering intact. There are no signs of wear to the rim of this pommel. The twelve standing oak leaves are in choice condition, with a spattering of the original frosting. The cross guard has the fine generic “A style eagle, with extremely crisp detailing throughout the head, breast and wing feathering, talons and wreathed mobile swastika. This guard retains nearly all of its silvering, matching the pommel with both having a darkened, aged patina.
The grip is a beautiful deluxe type, with a beautiful dark golden color uniformly throughout. This grip is totally perfect and extremely desirable. The scabbard is an outstanding silvered example having a dark aged patina, having never been cleaned. It is straight as an arrow and has finely pebbled panels. The oak leaf bands are extremely well executed, with evidence of extensive handwork. The throat is retained by double screws.
The blade of this dagger is a choice example. It is totally bright and has 100% of the original bright nickle plating and frosted backgrounds, both of which do much to highlight the etching.
The obverse blade has the usual Voos floral patterns and, in the center, is an open panel with an open-winged Army eagle with sprigs of oak leaves beneath each wing. The etching is very beautiful on this blade. On the proximal portion of the blade we see classic ‘three dots and arrow’, being identical to that shown on page 135. The reverse blade etch is also in perfect, pristine condition. The reverse ricasso is without logo, quite common to many Voos etched blades that were special ordered during the period. The original leather blade buffer is intact and in place.
A spectacular example of a mint condition Voos etched Army Dagger in an original, uncleaned state with a near-mint set of hangers.
