Price: Sold

Description: This Luftwaffe Sitzfallschirm, Model 30 IS 24 (Fl. 30232) Parachute is in overall excellent+ condition and totally complete. This rig has the correct QR box with the obverse stamped in German text reading ‘To Release harness : Turn and push’. Text on the side of the box reads ‘Gesichert’ (Safe) and ‘Ensichert’ (unlocked). The reverse of the QR box is stamped:  Gerat-Nr ‘10-10c-1’, Werk-Nr ‘2112630’ and Anforderz- ‘FL30232;. The safety ‘key’ is attached via a narrow webbing lanyard secured to the harness and a wide canvas webbing waist belt carries both the QR box and ripcord housing.  The QR box is fully functioning and the rip cord housing, rip cord and handle are all tight & present.

The webbing harness is labelled ‘Gurtzeug’ (Parachute Harness), ‘Gerat Nr. 10 .2. 14, Bauart (Type) ‘Autoflug’ It also has the reference number and maker’s details plus a relatively faint date of 1944. The pack contains the original canopy complete & rigging lines. The linen pack tray is complete with its original snaps & elastic bands; the nomenclature label reads: ‘Sitzfallschirm, Gerat Nr. 10 . 2.K -1, Anforderz Fl A.30246, Werk Nr.’ The harness and pack have always been together and have not been ‘put together’. It is extremely difficult to find Luftwaffe Pilots Parachutes in this complete and exceptional untouched condition.

Background:  The Luftwaffe Sitzfallschirm, Model 30 was a standard-issue seat-type parachute used by German fighter pilots and bomber crews (e.g., Me 109 & 110, FW 190, Ju 87, Ju 88 & Me 262, etc.) during World War II. Because it functioned as both a parachute and cockpit padding, it was highly prized by pilots.  It features the copied RAF quick release (QR) box design, although the Germans added a safety ‘key’ to prevent accidental depression and potential premature release, which this chute has.
