Description:  Late war nice quality, private purchase cap by an unknown maker having a field-green wool crown featuring a dark green wool centerband and bright golden-yellow wool waffenfarbe piping to both the top and bottom edges of the center cap band and around the peak of the crown.  The front center of the cap has a gray-metal, second pattern, (circa 1935-1945), die stamped, gray metal national eagle and the front center of the capband a matching gray metal wreath & cockade. The cap has a twisted, silver/aluminum chin cord secured to the cap by two, small, silver washed, pebbled metal buttons. The caps black lacquered, vulcan fiber visor has a typical subtly raised lip around its forward edge. Full thin-gray cotton lining retaining its unbroken celluloid moisture shield with partial makers logo; wide gray ersatz-leather sweatband. Cap shows minimal actual use with its aged appearance from handling over the years. A solid wartime Heer Officer Visor in a less than common waffenfarbe!

Background: Visor caps were a standard item for all personnel during the Third Reich period and regulations dictated the form of dress they were to be worn with based on the individual’s rank. Officer and senior NCO ranks were responsible for purchasing their own caps and could choose to purchase them from the army clothing depots or to privately purchase visor caps of higher quality. Originally the insignia worn on the visor cap consisted of the Weimar Reichsheer patterns which included a blackened leather chinstrap for all ranks. In February 1927 new chin cords for Officer ranks were introduced with silver cords for the ranks of Lieutenant to Oberst and senior NCO Officer aspirants and gilt cords for the ranks of Generalmajor to Generalfeldmarschall.
