Heavy khaki beige cotton with stiff visor and unique factory applied bevo-woven insignia to front; silver colored nylon officers chincord retained by two metal dished-buttons. Integral sweatband of similar material and the iconic tropical red-cotton liner, ink stamped 1942 & size 59; Known by its wearers as the ‘Herman Meyer’ after Herman Goring as a joke, this cap saw limited production/distribution due to its manufacturing cost; worn mostly by officers who discarded the black leather chinstrap for a more common officers visor cap chincord; an early DAK cap, stamped 1942 and is NOT Rb-Numbered like later simple tropical caps; a real one-looker that ‘was’ worn and shows it without abuse; uncommon.
This exact cap is Published in the book: ‘German Headgear in WWII’ by Moran & Maguire; shown on pages 242-243.
