Description: This late war enlisted Waffen-SS M43 cap is of typical Coarse feld-grun wool/rayon construction. The cap features fold down side and back panels with a downward scalloped front and forward sides secured by two untampered-with small, pebble-design steel buttons. The buttons both retain almost all of their feld-grau paint and have their original stitching. The cap has matching tan seam-basting material to its turn-down loops on each side of the cap flap. This material is identical to the lining of the cap. The interior of the cap is fully lined with light weight gray rayon/cotton fabric, a bit darker in the crown. No size stamp remains due to wear but this cap is clearly a 56-57. The cloth covered visor has an internal stiffener with a subtly raised lip to the bottom of the forward edge and one row of reinforcement stitching to the bottom of the forward edge. The front center of the cap has late war, single piece trapezoidal shaped SS cap insignia as introduced in 1944. The insignia consists of a machine embroidered SS eagle and skull in silver/gray threads with black accent threads to the skull on a field-gray wool trapezoid base. The skull is the second and final pattern with a single row of teeth. The trapezoid base is machine stitched to the cap in the typical zig-zag fashion. Cap shows the expected period use and wear, especially to the interior lining(as would be expected); A no-doubt “One Looker”!
