WW2 US M1 Helmet, 1st Pattern Hawley

WW2 US M1 Helmet, 1st Pattern Hawley

Price: Sold

Description: This US M1 Helmet Shell by ‘McCord’ is an excellent, early war front-seam fixed bale type; circa 4-1942 by the stamped lot number ’108B’ on the front inside visor area. Original OD paint inside & out, remains at approximately 95%. Chinstraps/hardware are excellent having 1941 early-type stamped-brass buckle (raised bar design).

First pattern M1 helmet Liner is the 1941 1st pattern by ‘Hawley’; a cloth-covered, pressed-fiberboard liner shell. Its suspension is the 1st pattern-type in white-rayon webbing w/early round tie; 1st pattern neck-suspension band in white-rayon having ‘folded-ends’ secured with the early Riddell-designed rectangular-aluminum washers; 1st pattern rayon snap-in nape strap. The liners 1st pattern fixed (riveted), thin brown leather chinstrap with integral buckle remains in place and is probably the most often missing piece to these 1st pattern liners.

A remarkable condition set dating from between 11/41 & 4/42;  production of these fiber liners ending 11/42 and being replaced by the composite type.
