Description: Attributed Kriegsmarine officer visored cap for rank of Leutnant Zur See to Kapitänleutnant; this cap is named to Olt. z.S.J.Krieg -Lehrkommando 600; the removable cap body is made of high quality dark blue colored wool, with the standard black mohair type cap band, having a black patent leather chinstrap held in place with two gilt anchored buttons, the visor’s upper side is covered in dark blue wool onto which is embroidered the scalloped rank decoration in gilt wire, the visor’s edge and lower surfaces are covered in black oilcloth, the national emblem is hand embroidered in gilt wire with thread highlight onto a dark blue colored wool backing and is carefully hand sewn to the cap, the wreath and rosette are embroidered in toned gilt wires onto a dark blue colored wool backing and is also hand sewn into place; a black patent-leather KM style chinstrap fastened at each end to the cap band complete the front of this great cap.. The interior is lined in a medium blue colored rayon and has a plain and intact celluloid sweat diamond with ID name & unit under it. Cap has a brown leather, vented brow sweatband, approximate size is 55, cap has a great floppy KM shape and is a real one-looker!
Background: After commanding the U-boat U-142 school boat for two months at the end of 1942, Johann-Otto Krieg took over the U-boat U-81 for 12 months service in the Mediterranean. He sank 15 ships, mostly small coastal sailing vessels, in her, earning the German Cross in Gold. He left U-81 in January 1944 to join the K-Verband (Midget Submarine Group), and commanded K-Verband Flotilla 361 from March to July 1944, during which time he was awarded the Knights Cross. He stayed with the K-Verband as a staff and training officer (Lehrkommando 600) until the end of the war. After the war he joined the post-war German Navy, Bundesmarine, and later retired as Fregattenkapitän.
