Description:This Luftwaffe Pilots Rig consists of; (1) Life Vest (10-76B1, (2) Flight Gauntlets (FW-5 m33), (3) Flight Helmet (LKp S-101) and (4) Summer One-Piece Flight Suit (K/So34);
(1) Luft Life Vest(Kapok-Schwimmweste 10-76B1)-This early pattern Schwimmweste is complete and in excellent condition showing little to no actual use. There are no rips, tears or holes and it retains all snaps, buckles, closure straps and toggles. A few insignificant stains around the back (see pics) keep this rare vest from being near-mint! Find another -this nice!
(2) Flight Gauntlets-(Flugzeugführer/Flugzeugbesatzung Handschuhe FW-5 m33) Constructed in a soft brown chromed leather with one adjustable securing strap at the wrist and a second at the top of the Gauntlet section, each strap with three closure positions with press fasteners, the male part with a plastic cap with the maker’s logo. An extendable matching leather fillet allows the glove to be with or without heavy flying clothing. Gloves are profusely marked, including size, date, ‘LBAB 37’, ‘M.Lehr.Geschw.’ & maker or owner’s name stamp. Gloves are excellent, to near mint with no issues whatsoever. Hard to upgrade!
(3) Summer Flight Helmet- (Kopfhaube LKp S101) This Summer Flying Helmet matches the flight suit offered here perfectly. It’s one of the finest examples we’ve seen and is complete with all Avionics and is an excellent example of a Luftwaffe flying helmet with all the key features: the light brown cloth summer exterior; earphones with their dark brown smooth leather covers, securing straps, buckles and fittings, hooks and the elasticized pullout straps beneath the earphone covers. At the bottom rear is the upside down, brown leather “Y” tab, the arms of which extend into neck straps bearing the dark reddish-brown bakelite covered larynx (Mi 4c) microphones (marked “Ln. 26779-3”). The avionics cord, with its four-prong end plug, exits the helmet above the microphone straps. The cord and plug are mint, with the black bakelite plug being marked “BLKvFl27560”. The oval earphones are fleece padded and mint showing NO use!. The translucent plastic earphone covers (beneath the fleece) are present and without issue. A woven nomenclature tag at the rear of the helmet nicely marked with the Baumuster (Model type) LkpS101; hard to improve upon this helm.
(4) Luft Summer Flight Suit-(Fliegerschutzanzug für Sommer (Kombination) K/So 34) is in Mint condition and complete being a fine example produced in the typical speckled tan cotton canvas cloth with large diagonal front zipper, lower crotch zipper, thigh zipper pockets and lower leg zippers. Snaps are marked ‘Prym’, Zippers w/ leather pulls are either ‘Elite’ or ‘DRP -Ri Ri’ and all are functional. This one piece flight suit has the unique emergency release strip to the interior left chest pocket. Hard to improve upon this flight suit or this entire 4 piece Flight Grouping, just needs a parachute!
Background: FL.30156 Kapok type schwimmweste comprised of a number of kapok filled cotton canvas rolls bound together with thick cord to form a basic waistcoat. This second pattern was introduced in 1943 and had an ‘open’ back designed to prevent instability problems found with the earlier full-backed version. A large collar provided head support that could be adjusted with the use of press studs on each side. The vest fastened at the front using basic wooden toggles and cord.
