Description:  German 8×60 U-Boat Kommendantenglas. An excellent pair of the elusive and highly collectable Carl Zeiss Kriegsmarine binoculars, circa 1944. The right receiver cap is marked “8 x 60” and has the serial number “2111161” & “blc.”  98% of the original tan paintwork is preserved, and the screw-in dry cartridges are included. The black Bakelite eyepiece protector is correctly marked “Benutzer” and the elastic band is completely undamaged. Most important the optics are clear and fully functional with the slightest of haze. Complete with its period leather carrying strap. Though not marked as such, the optics are fully coated on both the ocular and objective lenses. Excellent overall and comes fitted-in an exact Kriegsmarine issue-copy wooden storage case; A very rare and beautiful pair of real U-Boat binoculars which will be extremely difficult to upgrade.

Background:  The German Army and Navy used a wide variety of optical equipment, including a 6×30 (6 power magnification with 30mm objective lens), 7×50, 8×30, 8×60 10×50 and others, being the standard issued optics used by all branches of service.  This specific binocular was used by the U-Boat commander.
