Description: This beautiful traditionally-made officer’s sword measures 37¾”overall and bears a 27” shinogi-zukuri blade showing a striking mirror polish, sorie ~½;  crisp straight hamon line and tight wood-grain hada (maybe Koitame) just visible under close inspection. The tang is signed ”Toto Ju Nin / Ikkansai Kunimori Kin Saku” (Yasuhiro’s later signature) on the reverse face. Except for a tiny speck of gray patina at the tip, the blade is wholly unblemished, razor sharp and near mint. The officer’s mounts are of exceptional quality and condition, comprising a silver-plated habaki and gilt brass tsuba, fuchi, menuki and kabuto-gane with ocher-brown matte finish on the fuchi and kabuto-gane. The wood grip is bound in traditional white shagreen and brown cloth tape. The scabbard comes in its original leather field cover and appears quite minty, featuring a dark brown-painted steel body and ocher-brown-painted gilt brass mounts matching the hilt and showing only the barest light finish wear at the exposed edges of the mounts. Overall length seated: 40 ¼”;  Miyaguchi Yasuhiro (real name Miyaguchi Shigeru, b. 1897) is noted for his work as a smith at the esteemed Yasukuni Shrine; swords bearing his later ”Kunimori” signature were made post-1936 at Okura forge, after his time at Yasukuni. A truly splendid Japanese sword from a renowned craftsman.
