Reference: Equipped mainly with Type VIIB U-boats the 7th U-boat Flotilla, also known as the Wegener Flotilla was the 7th operational U-Boot combat unit of the Kriegsmarine. It was founded on June 25th, 1938 and named after Kapitänleutnant Berd Wegener, who operated during the First War as a U-Boat commander until his U-27 was sunk by British Q-ship HMS Baralong; a war crime in itself. Q-Ships, also known as Decoy Ships, served to appear to submarines as unarmed auxiliary or transport vessels. In truth, Q-ships were heavily armed and served to lure submarines onto the water surface, where they were most vulnerable. One of the Wegener submarines, U-47, is famous for sinking the British battleship HMS Royal Oak in October 1939.
