Description:Luftwaffe Rückenfallschirm, Model RH 12B (Fl. 30245). By Schroeder & Co., Berlin-Neukölln. The harness is in excellent to near mint condition with a large original linen label showing manufacturer’s details, date, model & reference numbers -Gerat: ‘Gurtzeug’’, Bauart: ‘25 Okt.1943 -Autoflug’, Gerat Nr: ‘10-9E 12b’, Werk N r-‘1045085’ and inspection stamps.
The QR box is fully functioning and the rip cord housing, rip cord and handle are all tight.The reverse of the QR Box is stamped: Bauart: ‘SA Schloss Autoflug’, Gerate Nummer: ‘10-10C1 (Rufa 12 B)’, Werk Nr. ‘1045085’ Hersteller: Dr.GETTWART, BERLIN’ correct QR box with engraved German text reading ‘To Release harness : Turn and push’. Text on the side of the box reads ‘GESICHERT’ (Safe) and ‘ENSICHER’ (unlocked). A wide canvas webbing waistbelt carries both the QR box and ripcord housing. All of the QR box plates have Luftwaffe ‘FL 30232-1’ code markings.The safety ‘key’ is attached via a narrow webbing lanyard secured to the harness.
The pack is in excellent to near mint clean condition complete with large original linen label showing manufacturer’s details, model & reference numbers – Gerat : ‘Ruckenfallschirm’, Bauart: ’Autoflug’ Anforderzeichen ‘Fl 30245’ and faint inspection/date stamps. The pack retains excellent bungee straps and attachment rings. The original thin backpad remains in place, attached via press studs to the back of the tray and is ink stamped ‘Fl 4/2706’. The riveted aluminium tray is in mint condition and retains all of its original dark anodized finish. This rig has always been together and is not a ‘put together’. It is extremely difficult to find Luftwaffe Pilots Parachutes in this complete and exceptional untouched condition.
Background: This type of parachute was worn by Pilots & Cockpit Crews in aircraft having a recess in the back of their seats and includes both fighters and bombers. It features the copied RAF quick release (QR) box design, although the Germans added a safety ‘key’ to prevent accidental depression and potential premature release, which this chute has.
