Description: Luftwaffe Officers White-top Visor cap in its Original Box & Attributed. White waffle-pattern crown with spring-form in situ. Black, horizontally ribbed, interwoven, mohair centerband, with matching silver-gray piping top and bottom. The front center of the crown retains its original hand embroidered, 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle in bright silver/aluminum wire threads with bright silver/aluminum bullion accent threads on a cut-out white wool base. The front center of the centerband has a hand embroidered, winged, oak-leaf wreath in silver/aluminum wire threads, encompassing a hand embroidered national tri-color cockade. The winged wreath and cockade are embroidered into a cut-out black wool base.. The cap has an interwoven, twisted, silver/aluminum, braid, chin cord secured to the cap by two, small, silver washed, pebbled, alloy buttons. Typical Luftwaffe black lacquered, vulcan-fibre visor with green colored underside and edge stitched in black leatherette. The interior of the cap is un-lined with a sew-in composition-plastic frontal-peak reinforcement.
Background: Family acquired in German from one middle-man. A very late war unworn-looking cap that still has some tissue paper stuffing. The box lid has a Frankfurt Train Station storage label dated February 1945. Comes with an original photo of a Luftwaffe Officer identified on the reverse as Hauptmann Siegfried Rothke; his date & place of birth and Luftwaffe record to 1943. He was w/ 6./K.G.4 ‘General Wever’ and awarded the Ritterkreuz 6-43. This cap is stone mint.
